The Treatment of Pain™
Onsen Muscle Therapy™
Just over two years ago the Parkinson's disease symptoms in my ankle made my right ankle so it would not bend enough to allow me to walk up even a small incline on a driveway. I was forced to walk backwards to get to the top of it. I found walking was difficult, as was forcing my foot into shoes; let alone boots in the winter and hiking was an impossibility! It became very restricting and very frustrating. I would have to watch as my husband went out the door to enjoy a good hike and fresh air.
A neighbor who is in her seventies but still an avid badminton player, seeing the difficulty I was having, mentioned how she had been going to Onsen Muscle Therapy™ and getting great benefits by doing so. She invited me to try it out to see if it could help me!
After being assessed and receiving Onsen® Treatments, I found that it made a huge difference to my life. I am so grateful! I am now able to climb hills and actually bend at the ankle. In my exercise class I can walk on tippy toes, something the locked ankle prevented me from doing. As well, I can keep both heels on the ground as I sit down on a chair... something most people take for granted, but Parkinson's disease often causes the joints to "freeze" because of the message not getting to the muscles saying “release” after they have contracted, therefore making a simple task such as that unattainable.
I have truly been blessed by finding a protocol that has let me get my life back on track. I may have Parkinson's but Parkinson's doesn't have me! The Treatment of Pain™ known as Onsen Muscle Therapy™ has worked for me!!
I had a spinal fusion of most of my spine to correct scoliosis in 1961. With aging, I had stiffness, limited neck mobility, headaches and increased chronic pain in my shoulders, head and neck areas. The Onsen Techniques® have lessened all my symptoms plus improved my quality of life while I reduced the anti-inflammatory medications I was taking. Thank you Linda Leeson, Certified Onsen Techniques Therapist™ for making me smile again.

I went for Onsen Therapy® two weeks after being in a motor vehicular accident where I was rear ended, twisting me in my seat. I was having back and neck pain which caused my legs to go numb. I could not sit for 10 minutes without being in major pain and could not walk long distances. My doctor prescribed muscle relaxants and I attended physiotherapy/massage as often as three times a week. I would end up leaving the physiotherapy appointments in more pain then when I entered and I was seeing little to no improvement. I was referred to Blaine (for Onsen Therapy®) from a family member, at a point when I was in unbearable pain. I was willing to try anything to return to normalcy. I will admit that I was a little unsure about how well their treatments would work.
After my first appointment with Blaine, I was feeling much better. My range of motion increased to half of what I would consider normal. I could sit, stand and walk with very little to no pain. The stretching and gentle muscle work that he provided was more relaxing then any of the physiotherapy and massages I previously had. He recommended plenty of stretches for me to do at home to help this process. He even pointed out things that my fiance could watch for and assist me in my recovery. The results were obvious and I was back to my old self (even shoveling snow) after four treatments.
The speed at which I recovered encouraged numerous coworkers to see Blaine for Onsen Therapy® as well!
Update 2013: I am pleased to say that after two years my neck and back remain pain free.
I returned to Blaine for Onsen® treatments after injuring my right knee doing a lunge incorrectly at the gym. My knee would lock into a bent position which would require me to forcefully and painfully extend it. The back of my knee had a continuous dull ache and I had little strength. Stairs were very difficult and when I was sitting cross-legged on the floor I could not lower my right leg. I did not go to my doctor or to physiotherapy. I came straight to Blaine!
Blaine assessed that I had tight hip flexors causing the right side of my pelvis to tilt forward. He showed me how to properly align my body and demonstrated before and after the treatment so I could see results. He loosened my muscles relieving the pain and discomfort returning me to daily tasks just fine. Blaine also recommended stretches for me to perform at home.
The ache was gone after my first treatment! I can do stairs again without pain and comfortably sit cross-legged on the floor. I would not hesitate to come for Onsen Therapy® for any future injuries.
First you performed a miracle on my right heal many months ago but my left heal needed a bit more work. Because I don’t live in Kelowna I was only able to get therapy when I visited family in the area. I remember the last visit with Linda.
She worked on my left heal for only 30 minutes. I thought it would need more work but I was very surprised that about a week later I had no more pain in the morning or any other time. And since then I have been running or playing basketball almost every day. I have been putting my heal to the test and still no problem.
Thank you Linda.
When I was 18 years old, I was in an industrial accident. I was accused of faking my pain and injuries after I was crushed between two pipes: sandwiched together under the sternum-ribcage area. I suffered for over 30 years until I had treatments of pain known as the Onsen Techniques® or Onsen Therapy™. This therapy was definitely my answer to pain free living!

I had a surfing accident while in Mexico a few years back, resulting in a severe dislocation of my shoulder, with some tearing of my rotator cuff. I finally had surgery to repair the damage one year ago, but the constant pain lingered, causing mostly sleepless nights. We even purchased the best pocket coil mattress available, to no avail. At the age of 66, I am aware that my body's healing capacity is significantly slower, but I needed relief.
I commenced Onsen® therapy 3 weeks ago, where the staff (Blaine Skleryk) administered gental manual muscle work to release the critical points of my shoulder, chest and neck. The relief was immediate after the first appointment and I even slept without pain that night!
To this date, I have had 6 treatments and I feel my shoulder results have been significant enough to compel me to write this letter, with sincere thanks!
I worked in the trucking industry for many years as a delivery driver. I was required to load and unload products, some of them very heavy. About 25 years ago I hurt my back and after a short time, at the recommendation of my surgeon, I quit the business and went to work in a less strenuous occupation. The surgeon said that I had deteriorated discs and that I should adjust my lifestyle to accommodate the condition. He did not recommend surgery.
As the years went by I was careful not to participate in activities that would aggravate my condition but over time I found that the most minor activities would cause my back to spasm. I would be on my back, icing it, almost every time I would work in the yard or sometimes for no reason at all. I wore a support belt, but it did not help much.
Rich Priest, a friend, had become proficient in the Onsen® method and offered to look at me. He found that my sacrum needed correcting and that I had a disc that did not move as it should. Immediately after he treated me I felt better. Every time I went through an episode he would correct me again. Over time my body became more stable. Rich taught me how to strengthen my core and improve my overall health.
It has been over 5 years since Rich began helping me. My vertebrae moves normally now and I can function without pain. I am able to chop wood, work in the garden, exercise vigorously, and do what I want. Through better diet and a regular workout schedule I have lost over 25 lbs and I am in better shape than I was 20 years ago.
At 60 years of age, I am looking forward to many years of healthy activity.
I was heading out to take my dog for a walk and didn’t notice the ice on the steps. I slipped and fell on my derriere. I was hurt physically as was my pride.
I had seen Blaine Skleryk for Onsen Muscle Therapy™ about 3 years ago for almost the same kind of injury and got better quickly.
I kept thinking about going to see him; but then thought I just need time to heal and things will eventually get better.
I was in so much pain I was nauseous. When I walked the pain was shooting down my right leg, I couldn’t sit for long, and I couldn’t stand either. I could only sit on the edge of a chair with my elbows on my knees and with my back bent forward. I thought I was going to die it hurt so much. Even driving my vehicle was painful as my right leg hurt to reach the gas pedal.
I waited about 3 weeks and could no longer stand the pain, so I finally saw Blaine at his Clinic in Calgary.
The morning that I was assessed by Blaine, he advised me that my tail bone was misaligned and he had a simple treatment to correct it. I was quite nervous, as I thought this may hurt. Blaine used his Onsen Techniques® to re-align my tail bone and when I stood up: wow, what a huge difference in the pain; in fact there was no pain in my back, it was instant relief!
My leg was still sore, but I could stand tall without back pain. I was very surprised by this as the last time I went, it did take a few visits to get me better. Once Blaine had loosened and stretched some muscles and joints, the pain in my leg was almost better. I got in my vehicle and had no pain stepping on the gas pedal.
I would recommend Onsen Muscle Therapy™ to anyone with back/leg pain. It works!! I have done other types of therapy that provided short term relief whereas Onsen Muscle Therapy™ seemed to fix the cause and my pain did not come back at all.
Thirteen years of chronic back and neck pain, punctuated by episodes of severe pain, left me exhausted since a whiplash injury in 2001.
Through stretching, strengthening and other conventional treatments, with lots of pain killers, I was able to manage the severity and frequency of flare-ups to some extent, but the most severe pain occurred after strenuous exercise done three to four times a week.
A friend purported to have had immediate sustained results from an Onsen Muscle Therapist™ he had seen and was now pain free.
He recommended that I see a Certified Onsen Techniques Therapist™ he went to in Calgary, Alberta by the name of Blaine Skleryk.
I was skeptical, but I had an open-mind with realistic expectations. If it worked, I would add this to the list of other therapies I had be utilizing to manage pain.
Previous to attending my appointment with Blaine, I was in severe pain and had trouble walking, sitting, and sleeping.
I felt immediate results DURING my first appointment. Blaine assessed the problem, corrected my structural misalignment and since that appointment, my back pain has been substantially reduced so that I could now walk, sit, and sleep with minimal pain.
I was back to previous activity levels within the two treatments I received that first week. Typically it takes me 4-6 weeks to recover from a severe pain episode.
The third treatment helped my neck and back pain continue to improve daily. No other treatment has rendered such immediate, sustained results. I found that Onsen Muscle Therapy™ to be highly effective and I am encouraged with results to date.
My back saved again by Julie!
The things we were told not to do. Sitting on a low couch leaning forwards working on a laptop computer for 40 minutes. I knew the moment I stood up my back was in discomfort.
I don’t think twice now when I am in any type of muscular pain or spasm. I make an appointment with Julie Bacon the Goddess of Anatomy, an icon known in the massage world, a leading US Certified Onsen Techniques instructor.
I am fortunate to work with Julie Bacon for 10 years at the Seattle Athletic Club.
Personal Fitness Trainer, age 56 – my body is constantly in motion.
Many times Julie has constantly kept me out of pain and joint disfunction.
Just recently, after sitting on a couch too long I overstretched my lower back muscles. Babysitting at the time I lifted the 2 year old on my hip and totally strained my back. I did not feel the results till later that night and in the morning not being able to move without back spasms.
And after 3 days of back spasms that would take me to the floor, Julie had me walking out of the massage room without muscle spasms. Confident on follow up routines for muscles I am now muscle spasm free.
I do not hesitate to recommend my clients to have a session experiencing the Onsen Technique.
Personal Fitness Trainer at the Seattle Athletic Club
Julie Bacon saved me! I was unable to walk or stand for four months due to a strained/torn muscle in my lower back. My musculoskeletal specialist had run out of answers on how to treat my chronic injury. I found Julie online at the Onsen® therapy website and chose her because of her qualifications, it was important for me to find a therapist with knowledge and confidence.
After three treatments using the Onsen® therapy techniques she had me up and walking again gaining strength rapidly in a little over one week! I would highly recommend Julie to anyone seeking a competent and caring Onsen® therapist.
Sincerely, Duane Yirka
In the summer of 2012 Rhonda saved me from an incessant, mysterious, unforgiving neck pain – the kind that makes concentrating a challenge, any sudden movement a danger, and being in good cheer an Academy worthy performance. No other treatment had been able to permanently alleviate it. I had been living with this debilitating pain for six weeks when Rhonda took it on. I thought it was well and truly entrenched. Rhonda followed up an impressively thorough diagnostic method with treatment of secondary joint blocks before she approached the notoriously delicate neck joints. I was equally impressed by her technique of working gently
and thoroughly with the vulnerable and particular bones and joints in my neck. The session was at least two hours long. After the treatment I slept for six hours, waking to a complete recovery, which has lasted to this day. I am grateful, to say the least.
I went to see Rhonda via a referral from a co-worker. My left left shoulder was so sore my mobility was next to nil, the pain was intense. When I saw Rhonda approx 10 months ago she did some therapy with me and had given me some exercises to do at home. I saw her 5 times and within the 3rd time of seeing her I was able to move my shoulder and gain some strength, which is vital due to my job as a shipper/receiver. To this
day I use the exercises that she has given me. Rhonda in my mind performed a miracle without surgery and I am able to do my job and enjoy the things I love in life.
In 2005 I fractured my sacrum in three places. I was in constant pain sitting, standing and laying down. I did not have much movement at all from my armpits to my crotch.
Over the next year or so with Doctors, physical therapy and sports rehabilitation there was some value although I could not feel some of my muscles and therefore the stretches and exercises were of varying results. In hindsight, I feel that perhaps physical therapy should occur after the muscle tissues and alignment issues have been dealt with. The general consensus of the medical professionals that I dealt with seemed to be: “there is nothing we can do for you”, and “this is as good as it gets”. I wanted to get better. I wanted help.
In 2007 I came in contact with an Onsen Therapist in Cold Lake, Rhonda Sidoryk. After a few sessions I began to see results. September 2007 I returned to work able only to complete 26% of the job requirements – my disability insurance ended and I was let go. I was approached about applying for long term disability, this made no sense to me when I was getting results from Onsen Treatments and if I continued with it – I would get better.
I persevered with getting better. I continued seeing Rhonda sporadically, as often as I could afford to go, over the next 9 months. Presently 2009, I have full mobility and no pain. I am active and my strength continues to improve.
I am not saying that Onsen is a cure-all miracle. You do not simply show up and BE better. The results may vary for each person. I diligently followed the recommendations of rest, ice, heat, stretches or exercises while the practitioner continued to correct imbalances, scar tissue etc.
Rhonda even released what I had thought to be a life-long condition of pain and restriction in my neck; that I had lived with since an accident in 1992.
I would not hesitate to recommend a person who suffers from a sore body to at least visit a few times with an Onsen Therapist. If it can result in more mobility and less pain – wouldn’t that be worth it?
Life is too short to trade it up for pain!!
The Onsen Techniques developed by Rich Phaigh have made a significant contribution to the quality of my life. It is difficult for my wife and I to imagine what our lives would be like without our regularly scheduled sessions with Rich Phaigh.
Rich's techniques have been especially helpful in assessing injuries and chronic conditions and developing successful treatment and pain management strategies that work. In addition to taking pain out of our lives, his techniques help us counter the effects of aging by providing an ongoing assessment and improvement in the range of motion of our joints, muscles and tendons improving mobility and posture.
As an aging athlete of 65+ years, my regularly scheduled sessions with Rich Phaigh have allowed me to continue competing in age group Athletics
competition in the sprints and hurdles on the national and international level. I am pleased that the Onsen Techniques developed by Rich are being
shared with others around the world.

My name is Fran Pelletier, I hurt myself at work 6 years ago. I had sustained a neck and shoulder injury. W.C.B. wrote me off after 6 months saying it was soft tissue and that I was fine but that was not the case. For another 5 ½ years I lived with extreme pain and headaches, was not able to move my neck and shoulder. So hence could not work. My whole life vanished in front of me. I have been to numerous doctors, and had numerous tests done and got the same answer. We don't know exactly what you have done so take this medication.
Then a friend told me about Linda and what she has done for him. Because I have tried everything else and was ready to give up the idea that I was ever going to live pain free and have my life back, I decided to try it. Onsen has given me my life back. She not only figured out what was wrong, she was able to help me. After the second treatment I was able to pick cherries and could shampoo my hair in the shower. This doesn't sound like much but trust me, these were only some of the little things that I could no longer do. I am now living my pain free life and I am looking for a job. I cannot thank Linda enough.

Since August 1999 to October 1999, Linda Leeson has given me three 2.5 hour Onsen® treatments. I have suffered Chronic back pain for the last 5 years & migraine headaches since the age of 12. I was diagnosed with double scoliosis. I have seen several chiropractors, Physiotherapists and Acupuncturists over the years and haven't had any relief. After the 2nd treatment, I felt a noticeable improvement. Several weeks of no back pain or spasm and no migraines. It has been months since the last treatment with still no back pain or spasm and best of all - no migraine headaches. I would recommend this treatment to anybody who has suffered chronic pain.

To Whom it may concern:
Since the beginning of May 1997, I have been involved in direct Reflexotherapy Treatment and Onsen Technique® Therapy with Linda Leeson of Zeemans Early Recovery, in an attempt to correct soft tissue injuries and structural imbalances suffered in an old motor vehicle accident.
On May 2, 1990, I was struck head on, by another vehicle, causing my vehicle to roll several times out of control. I was ejected through the side passenger's window, arced approximately 150 feet through the air, and landed full force in the nearby ditch on my back. I bounced up and impacted a second time, also on my back.
I could no longer play sports, hike, jog etc., nor could I sit at my work desk for more than 15 minutes, without having to get up to relieve pain, resulting in a 70lb weight gain up to my current 265lbs. It is 7 years after my accident, and I have found no relief with other therapies.
After my first Onsen® treatment, I immediately noticed a difference. I started to feel 37 years old again instead of 65.
Mrs. Leeson of Zeemans advised that a proactive exercise program approved through my physician should compliment the next stage of Onsen® Treatment. With additional daily stretches and exercises, while I do my workload, it becomes increasingly easier to return my muscular system to its original pre-injury memory state. Depending on how I utilize the self-help program, for releasing these muscles, it is possible to remain pain free with very little follow up from Zeemans.
It is refreshing to not only find a treatment program that is effective, but to also find a Therapist that genuinely cares about her clients' condition. Not only does the therapy, work, but Mrs. Leeson will coordinate your claim or treatment to correspond with any other required therapies with your Physician. She honestly can return you back to work or your lifestyle early.
I am a General Insurance Adjuster. I adjust Bodily Injury Claims and Property Damage Claims. I would not hesitate to recommend Zeemans' Onsen® Therapy to anyone.

I was involved in a car accident on July 25, 1997. I was driving a brand new Suzuki Swift, was stopped in traffic and rear-ended by a Pontiac Sunfire. I was pushed forward into the Jeep Cherokee stopped in front of me. My car was written off as a total loss.
Initially, the extent of my injuries appeared to be stiff and sore muscles, including my neck and back. But as time went on, my condition seemed to worsen. I could not concentrate or focus on my work, the neck and back pain was relentless, and I was having trouble remembering the simplest of things. Six months after my accident, I was rear-ended again when stopped at a stoplight. The accident was relatively minor, but aggravated my condition. I became depressed, cried a lot, lost weight, and felt like my life was spinning out of control. The frustration of living in constant pain and being unable to do all the things I wanted and used to do was getting the best of me. I felt as if I had aged years since the accidents.
I was having all the traditional treatments, seeing my doctor regularly, going for physiotherapy and massage, tried wearing some magnets, and was taking multiple drugs for depression and pain. However, relief was only temporary at best, and my symptoms would return. In December 1999, my husband and myself were introduced to Linda Leeson and the Onsen Technique® at a local home-based business monthly meeting. I went for a consultation and for the first time thought maybe there was hope for me yet! After my first treatment with Linda, the improvement was incredible. I felt so light on my feet, like walking was so effortless, and best of all painless. Having had only three or four hours of treatments, I was able to ride in a car to Saskatchewan for Christmas. Linda had given my husband instructions of what to do if I needed "a fix", and therefore I really enjoyed our holiday. Subsequent treatments have continued to improve my condition so much that I now know I will get my life back. It is so wonderful to feel close to what I remember normal to be.
I highly recommend the Onsen Technique® for anyone suffering from chronic pain. I have referred Linda to everyone I know. My family and two of my co-workers who have seen Linda call her "The Miracle Lady". For the first time since my accidents, I am excited about my future.

A pinched nerve made my life miserable for several weeks. Unable to lay on my side or even roll over, I had many sleepless nights. A physiotherapist did a good job of taking away the pain and restoring my movements, however I still had trouble with my feet. My two largest toes were very sensitive and red. They itched fiercely and had very sensitive tips. This affected my walking and sleep.
After five sessions with Linda at Zeemans Early Recovery using the Onsen Technique®, I feel that she has realigned my structure. The redness & itching has disappeared. I now feel that I walk straight. Thanks Linda!
"I had serious pain originating in my hip and shooting down my leg for the best part of a month. I couldn't do anything, not even sit! My chiropractor suggested massage therapy. After two Onsen Techniques® sessions with Laurie Keith, (and following her guidance on stretching exercises) I was back both on the golf course, and in my computer chair in short order."
